Overview
We are seeking a senior-level Data / BI Engineer who will own the design, performance, and scalability of our cloud analytics platform from source to insight. In this role, you will architect modern data warehouses using best‑practice dimensional modeling, build high‑performance ETL/ELT pipelines, and deliver a trusted “Gold” data layer that powers enterprise reporting. You’ll act as the technical authority for the Power BI semantic layer, leveraging advanced DAX, Power Query, and VertiPaq optimization techniques to ensure dashboards remain fast, reliable, and intuitive—even as data volumes scale into the millions. Security, governance, and data quality will be core responsibilities, with a focus on enabling data democratization without compromising privacy or compliance.

Responsabilities

• Data Warehouse Architecture: Design and maintain scalable cloud data warehouses (Synapse, Snowflake, or BigQuery) using industry-standard modeling (Star/Snowflake schemas).
• High-Performance ETL/ELT: Build robust data pipelines using SQL and cloud orchestration tools (like Azure Data Factory or AWS Glue) to move data from source to "Gold" layer.
• Power BI Semantic Layer: Architect the enterprise-level Power BI environment, ensuring datasets are optimized for performance using Aggregations, Incremental Refresh, and Composite Models.
• Advanced DAX & Power Query: Develop complex business logic in DAX and M, ensuring that reports remain responsive even as data volumes scale into the millions of rows.
• Security & Governance: Implement Row-Level Security (RLS) and manage workspace permissions to ensure data democratisation without compromising privacy.
• Query Optimization: Act as the "SQL Surgeon"—identifying and fixing performance bottlenecks in long-running queries or failing data refreshes.
• CI/CD & Documentation: Lead the transition to "DataOps" by implementing Git version control, automated testing, and maintaining comprehensive data dictionaries.
  Technical Requirements
• Advanced SQL Mastery: 5+ years of expert-level experience with T-SQL, PL/SQL, or PostgreSQL (Window functions, CTEs, and Stored Procedures).
• Expert Power BI Stack: Deep knowledge of the VertiPaq engine, Power BI Service administration, and advanced DAX modeling.
• Cloud Data Integration: Proven experience with Azure (Data Factory, Synapse).
• BI Tooling: Familiarity with optimization tools like DAX Studio, Tabular Editor, and ALM Toolkit.
• Data Modeling: Expert-level understanding of Kimball/Inmon methodologies and dimensional modeling.
   

Qualifications & Experience

• Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• Professional History: 5–7+ years in Data Engineering or BI Engineering, with a heavy emphasis on end-to-end cloud solutions.
• Problem-Solving: Ability to perform root-cause analysis on "broken" dashboards to determine if the issue is in the source, the transform, or the visual layer.
• Requirement Discovery: Skilled at leading discovery workshops to uncover the true business questions behind a data request, rather than just building what is asked for.
• Root Cause Analysis: Ability to dive into a broken Power BI report or a failing SSIS job and identify whether the issue lies in the source data, the transformation logic, or the visualization layer.
• Scalability Mindset: When faced with a performance bottleneck, you don't just "fix it"—you redesign the process to ensure it doesn't happen again as data volume grows.
• Decision Frameworks: Confident in making high-stakes "Build vs. Buy" decisions and defending technical trade-offs (e.g., speed to market vs. long-term code maintainability).
• Data Storytelling: Beyond just building charts, you can weave a narrative that explains why the numbers moved and what actions leadership should take next.
• Documentation Excellence: A commitment to creating clear technical documentation and user-facing "data dictionaries" to reduce confusion and democratize data across the company.
• Active Mentorship: Ability to provide constructive, empathetic feedback during code reviews and architectural whiteboarding sessions.
• Adaptability: Experience thriving in an Agile/Scrum environment, maintaining a calm demeanor when priorities shift mid-sprint.
• Stakeholder Management: Experience translating complex technical "blockers" into clear updates for project managers and C-suite stakeholders.
