Overview
We are looking for a seasoned Software Engineer to join an Application Modernization team. You will be a primary contributor in migrating a legacy application backlog to a modern, cloud-native architecture — spanning React/Next.js frontends, Redis-backed APIs, event-driven microservices, and Kubernetes-based deployments.

This is a remote contract open to candidates based in Argentina, Peru, Colombia, Brazil, Mexico, Ecuador, Bolivia, or Chile. You will collaborate daily with cross-functional, English-speaking teams, so professional-level English fluency is a must!

What You Will Be Doing

  • Lead and contribute to the analysis, planning, and execution of legacy-to-modern-stack migrations, ensuring business logic is faithfully re-implemented and improved.
  • Build performant, accessible frontends using React JS and the latest Tailwind CSS, integrating with Strapi CMS.
  • Develop and maintain server-side rendered applications with Next.js on Node.js following a Test-Driven Development (TDD) approach.
  • Implement and tune Redis caching layers to optimize application throughput and reduce database load.
  • Design and integrate Kafka-based event streaming pipelines as part of an evolving microservices architecture.
  • Containerize services and support Kubernetes deployments on-premises, with a clear migration path toward AWS EKS.
  • Champion Blue/Green deployment strategies to minimize downtime and reduce release risk.
  • Instrument services with Datadog and Splunk to ensure full-stack observability.
  • Maintain high code quality through GitHub workflows, Snyk security gates, and thorough code reviews.
  • Leverage AI-assisted development tools — GitHub Copilot and Claude Code — to accelerate delivery and promote best practices across the team.
  • Collaborate with product managers, designers, and engineers in English-speaking distributed teams, contributing to technical discussions, design reviews, and written documentation.
Required Qualifications
Experience & Background:
  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience in full-stack or backend-heavy roles.
  • Demonstrated history of working in English-speaking professional environments — international teams, global clients, or projects where English was the primary working language.
  • Proven track record delivering production-grade applications.
  • Experience in legacy modernization or large-scale re-architecture projects is strongly preferred.
Technical Skills:
  • Strong proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript across frontend and backend.
  • Hands-on experience with React JS and Tailwind CSS.
  • Production experience with Next.js and Node.js.
  • Solid knowledge of relational databases — MySQL and/or PostgreSQL — including schema design and query optimization.
  • Experience with containerization (Docker) and orchestration platforms (Kubernetes or OpenShift).
  • Fluency with Git-based workflows, branching strategies, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Familiarity with TDD methodologies and automated testing (unit, integration, end-to-end).
  • Working knowledge of caching strategies; Redis experience preferred.
  • Understanding of event-driven architecture; Kafka experience is a plus.
  • Familiarity with observability tooling such as Datadog or Splunk.
  • Experience with security scanning in CI/CD pipelines (Snyk or similar).
  • Professional English proficiency is required (B2 or higher). Prior professional experience working in English is a must — previous roles at international companies, English-speaking clients, or projects where English was the primary working language all qualify.
Nice to Have:
  • Experience migrating from legacy server-side platforms (ColdFusion, Classic ASP, PHP 5.x, etc.).
  • Hands-on experience with Strapi CMS or other headless CMS platforms.
  • Familiarity with Blue/Green or Canary deployment patterns.
  • Experience with Figma and design-to-code tooling.
  • Active use of AI-assisted coding tools such as GitHub Copilot or Claude Code.
  • AWS experience, particularly with EKS or managed container services.
  • Contributions to open-source projects or a public technical portfolio.

Additional Information
  • Type of Employment: Contract.
  • Duration: 6+ months with possibility of renewal depending on business needs and performance.
  • Eligible Locations: Remote — Argentina, Peru, Colombia, Brazil, Mexico, Ecuador, Bolivia, and Chile.
  • Authorization: Candidates must be legally authorized to work in their country of residence. This role does not offer visa sponsorship.
