Role Overview

The Experience & Design Director will be responsible for establishing and championing the user-centered design vision for Concord. This role requires a strategic thinker with a strong understanding of UX principles, visual design, and user research methodologies. The ideal candidate will be a hands-on leader, capable of mentoring and inspiring a team while also contributing to sales pursuits and client relationship management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leadership & Management:
    • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing UX & Design team, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
    • Set clear goals, provide regular feedback, and1 conduct performance reviews for team members.
    • Manage team resources and allocate projects effectively.
    • Advocate for design thinking and user-centered design principles within the organization.
    • Contribute to the overall strategic direction of the company.
  • UX Strategy & Execution:
    • Develop and implement a comprehensive UX strategy aligned with business objectives.
    • Oversee the entire design process, from user research and ideation to prototyping and testing.
    • Define and maintain design standards and guidelines.
    • Ensure the quality and consistency of design deliverables across all projects.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., development, product management) to ensure seamless integration of design into the development process.
  • User Research & Analysis:
    • Plan and conduct user research studies to understand user needs, behaviors, and pain points.
    • Analyze user data and insights to inform design decisions.
    • Stay up-to-date on the latest UX trends and best practices.
  • Visual Design & Branding:
    • Ensure that designs are visually appealing, user-friendly, and consistent with brand guidelines.
    • Collaborate with marketing as needed to develop marketing materials and promote UX & Design initiatives 
  • Client Engagement:
    • Lead client meetings and presentations to understand their needs and present design solutions.
    • Build strong relationships with clients and act as a trusted advisor on UX and design matters.
  • Project Planning:
    • Accurately plan UX & Design team work by working with project managers to develop project plans, estimates and allocations.
    • Assist in creating and reviewing SOWs related to UX & Design work.
    • Help team manage time against budgeted allocations and work to with project management and clients to resolve any challenges. 
  • Sales:
    • Serve as SME for all UX & Design-related sales pursuits
    • Consult on potential opportunities for UX & Design
    • Work with marketing to develop blogs, special offers and social posts highlighting the team’s capabilities 
    • Work across departments to identify complementary capabilities and potential sales opportunities


Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in UX design, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Proven track record of leading and managing a UX & Design team.
  • Strong understanding of user-centered design principles and methodologies.
  • Expertise in user research, information architecture, interaction design, and visual design.
  • Proficiency in design tools such as Figma, Adobe Creative Suite,2 etc.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience working in an Agile environment.
  • Experience in the consulting or agency industry is a plus.
  • Portfolio demonstrating a strong understanding of UX principles and design execution.

Additional Information

  • Employment type: full-time, permanent employment.
  • Salary range: $150,000 - $190,000 base.
  • Work location: Open to remote or hybrid, depending on location. Travel will be required to visit the HQ, clients, or events.
  • Preferred locations: Minneapolis, Kansas City, or Richmond. 
  • Requirements: must be authorized to work legally in the US without sponsorship, now or in the future.
